Practice begins May 1st and will be at UNO until the SYC pool re-opens. Practice at UNO will be 6:30-7:30pm Monday through Friday. We will also have a Saturday practice from 11:30-12:30 on May 4, 11, and 18. When the SYC pool re-opens practice will move to 4-5pm Monday through Friday. The number of times a swimmer comes to practice is optional; most swimmers attend at least two practices per week. Please see the Meet and Practice Schedule and the Informational Flyer for more information.

Sailing Awards Presented for 2012 Season |

SYC's racing fleet recognized their club sailors with an awards ceremony for the 2012 season. In addition to the many fleet and class winners, several other honorees were recognized. Of particular note, the Lorber Trophy was awarded to Debbie Grimm and the Mariner's Trophy went to Rob Rogers. Also, R/C Chairman Rocky Sanchez was honored with the GYA Race Management Award for the 2012 Junior Lipton Regatta.

DECISION wins at Key West |
|
Key West, FL - “This is the best feeling I’ve ever had after a regatta. We’ve been coming to Key West since 1998 and winning here has long been on our list of goals,” said Stephen Murray, skipper of High Performance Class champion Decision. “To me, this is the premier event in North America. Of all the regattas we’ve won over the years, this one stands out because of the history and tradition. It means a lot to be able to say you won Key West.”
Decision captured the High Performance Class following a tremendous battle with sister ship Spookie.

Andrew and Marcus Eagan bested a 16-boat fleet to win the inaugural VX ONE North American Championship, sailed at Pensacola YC, Nov 8-11.

Day one of the Great Oaks Regatta greeted the 36 teams of high school sailors with southeast breezes from 6 to 10 knots, gusting to 20 knots! Four races were completed in both the Red and Green Fleets. The top half of these fleets will form the Gold Fleet, the bottom half will form the Silver Fleet. Sailing continues on Sunday.
Day two brought the same conditions as day one. 55 races were sailed over two days. Congratulations to Ransom Everglades, the winner of the Gold Fleet, and Long Beach High, winner of the Silver Fleet.

2012 Southern Soiland Cup, Nov 2-4 |

SYC wins Soiland Cup
Southern has won the 2012 Soiland Cup team racing invitational event with a strong finish, sweeping the final, four-team Gold Round Robin. Larchmont YC finished second and Newport Harbor YC, third. The SYC skippers were John A. Meade, Charles Meade and Johnny Lovell.

 NSHOF Inducts Nine of Sailing’s Significant Contributors
"From the opening notes played by the US Marine
Corps band to the closing gun fired by master of ceremonies and 2011
inductee Gary Jobson, the four living and five posthumously inducted
sailors – including a Medal of Freedom recipient, the father of the
yellow first-down line for televised football, and several Olympians –
were celebrated for having persevered to succeed in the sport."
